Hudson Music, a company designed to provide ongoing educational resources for drummers worldwide has selected George Spanky McCurdy , drummer for Lady Gaga , Kanye West, Nas and more, to be their feature drum teacher for their next set of training resources. Because "Spanky" is very fashion conscience, having perfect hair was high on his agenda. Therefore I was commissioned to bring the Andis tools to create a fusion of a vintage haircut with a modern twist. The location was The Barber Shop Studios beside a lake in Hopatcong, NJ. This studio isn't a barbershop, but is regarded as one of the most phenomenal recording studios in the country by top engineers and producers. The studio's name was inspired by its owner Scott Barber.

Above is Andis Educator Kenny Duncan in action with an Andis Pro Dry Dryer and an Andis Fade Master. Below is George "Spanky" McCurdy in session sporting his vintage fusion haircut.

Below is the co-President of Hudson Music Rob Wallis, overseeing the production of the training session for "Off Time On Time"

A lot of people have clipped a heart or star or something similar on their horse's hip. I started clipping full scenes on both sides of their body, about 4 or 5 years ago. It is fun to watch everyone's reaction to something so different. I try to keep a theme and many of the symbols are secret "shout outs" to my friends. So far, there are 6 finished pictures, and several in the works. I make stencils and use my AG Super 2 Speed with a T-84 blade to clip the pictures.

Even though I live in Florida, I have always been a huge "Packers" fan. I didn't realize, however, that football and the Packers are quite the religion they truly are in Wisconsin.

Here's to a successful season, GO PACK GO!

Miley Cyrus shocked fans with a new edgy hairstyle reminiscent of the early 80s punk scene. The disconnection from short to long is abrupt. The nape and around the ears remain the same length as the sides of the head for a softer, less precise look. This hair cut is easy to recreate with the Andis Envy Adjustable Blade Clipper, Elijah Mack gives the how to.
Step 1. Section the hair on top at the parietal ridge completely around the head. Secure this section of hair up and away from the sides of the head.
Step 2. Using the Andis Envy adjustable blade clipper with 3/4" guard attachment cut all the hair below the parietal ridge. Make sure to first use vertical strokes, then followed by horizontal strokes in both directions. This will ensure the hair is cut evenly.
Step. 3. Release the top section of hair.
Step 4. Using a standard stylist comb create a 1" thick section from side to side at the front of the head. Comb the hair straight up from the head. Place the section of hair between your fingers at desired length...about 8". With The Envy clipper adjusted to the fully open setting, lightly point cut the ends of the hair. Use the Free Hand Clipper Cutting technique for this step, otherwise you with need to set down and pick back up the clipper each time you create a new section.
Step 5. Repeat step 4, working towards the back of the head.
The only thing left is to add a Devo concert T-Shirt and the look is complete.

On August 13th Paul's Beauty celebrated the grand opening of his Baltimore location with an Andis clipper cutting class and unbelievable prices on the latest and greatest tools from the Andis Company. After working with Paul's Beauty in Capitol Heights, MD for several years, I have learned that Paul's passion is education which yields a desire for him to want others to be educated.
Paul and his team schedule continued educational classes of all types on a consistent basis. I believe this is the key to the success of Paul's Beauty brand, because an educated customer is more likely to be a loyal customer when their invested. Therefore, it made perfect sense to kick off a grand opening with more education. There were 60-plus eager to learn beauty and barber professionals in attendance and we had fun. Before, during, and after the event, we discussed tools, techniques, and business tips. I believe this class will yield many professionals that will aim for higher goals than they had before within the beauty and barber industry. The combination of the Andis Company and Paul's Beauty creates a group of passionate people that inspire people for greatness, while leaving a legacy of a better professional industry.

On August 8th, the Andis Total Look Competition was held at one of the largest beauty industry trade shows around, the Bronner Bros International Tradeshow. About 30 barbers from all over the world showcased their ideas through haircutting, hairstyling, and wardrobe preparations. The challenge for these clipper cutters was to create a hairstyle that complemented the total look of their model. As taught in barber school, every hairstyle isn't for everybody based on their look. As the competition commenced the hair started flying and the manifestation of all the barbers’ ideas were coming to life. It proved to be a tight competition between David Lindsay, Khaliq Mabry & John Ruff based on the degree of difficulty they chose and the selection of relevant and complete total looks of each of their models. John Ruff won by a close margin due to the flawless execution of an 80's boy look featuring a bright yellow color highlighted gumby haircut with intricate designs. John Ruff truly deserved to be the 1st place winner of the Andis Total Look Competition during the 2012 mid-summer Bronner Bros Hairshow.

As promised the Fade clipper was introduced to the public at the Bronner Bros Show and its introduction was a culture shock for show attendees. The avid fans of the Andis brand expect great quality tools along with moderate pricing, but the price tag of the Fade made show attendees gasp! The Andis Fade met the expectations of the avid fans but has an inexpensive price tag that leaves room in your budget to buy two! The ability to produce a Fade Master like tool with a lighter housing and a lighter price tag allows the Andis company to meet the needs of more professionals and more students across the USA. With 7,200 blade stokes per minute, a Fade blade, a 0 & 1 attachment comb, fade brush, clipper comb and blade cleaning brush, this tools can be used to execute a wide array of haircuts which was demonstrated on stage. The Fade features a surgical blade designed to be used for bald or close fades, free hand carving, clipper over comb or with an attachment comb for various predetermined lengths of hair. Overall, Andis has managed to shock Bronner Bros Show attendees as well as many national fans of the Andis brand with the introduction of the Fade clipper, which has a big time use with a small time price.

Radamez Perez did a great job on the Andis stage explaining how he used Andis tools to create a Lord of the Rings character. He then took his talent into the Major League Barber Hot Hands competition and won first place. Radamez Perez also won Haircut of the Year award from the Xotics Barber's Round Table event for a zombie design he did at the Xotics hair battles tour.

LePearls Beauty Emporium in Philadelphia reached out for help to better serve the men in their community and Andis came to the rescue. A team of eager-to-learn stylists invested in continued education to ensure that they can properly serve their community. They documented how there had been an increase in the male traffic in their salon and they knew that this could have a huge impact on their careers if the majority of the males were retained as clients. Therefore we designed a lecture demonstration and hands-on class that focused their weak points. During this class stylists who never used Andis clippers became fans and learned how clipper cutting can save time in various forms of cutting versus cutting hair with shears.
